Got a reason to smile

Some kind person bought a framed print of man of steel today. It’s my first framed print sale and I’m still in shock. I thought I’d never sell one.

The sale has come at an odd time too. I was thinking about getting rid of my redbubble profile. I’d recently received a breach notice/warning from the bubble about that very photo and I have to admit it really put me off the bubble. I seem to be going through an extended creative lull at the moment. I have very little inclination to do anything. It’s been a few weeks since I picked up my camera. I am unsure about if I even want to keep taking photos. I’m don’t feel like I’m improving or that I’m taking anything that’s particularly interesting.

But it feels really good to have sold something 🙂

Today’s wanderings provided me with…

Silence is golden | Reflection | Into the blue

Today was such a beautiful day I decided it would be a waste to spend it inside. So out I went with my trusty beloved camera and took some shots. Took me a while to get my eye in and I seemed to be mostly attracted to shapes which didn’t really work as photos but perhaps I can use them as textures for other things. Still, I did get three photos I was happy with so I think that’s a pretty good result.

I’m really digging Reflection. Docklands isn’t my favourite place in Melbourne but who ever designed the car parks came up with some fantastic concepts.

I’m trying to get my creative mojo back. Things have been a bit tough for me recently and taking photos/being creative always makes me feel better because I feel like I’ve achieved something. I haven’t been getting a lot of comments on my photos recently but I’m getting a steady amount of views which is nice. Besides, my photography is only going to improve if I keep plugging away at it. It was very bad of me to put my camera down and not pick it up for months.

Atlas shrugged

Never read the book but it makes for a great title.

Nine lives

I’m going through a creative lull at the moment so I’ve been flicking through some of my older photos. And on occasion I find something I like. Not sure why I didn’t pick this photo the first time around. I like the tilt of her head and her face in sharply in focus unlike some of my other Catwoman photos. There’s another shot I like as well but the background is proving particularly problematic and I haven’t found a solution I like for it as yet.

Anyhoo… only 12 days until I go. Very excited. I’m starting to think about things like packing so I can weight my suitcase and what I actually want to take with me. It feels a little surreal, I’ve been planning this for so long and now it’s almost here. My brother has started asking me how many days to go when he sees me. Actually, I think I’m also excited because I get two weeks off work. I think I’m already in holiday mode because I find myself not caring about any of the projects I’m supposed to working on. Oops. Can’t help it though. It’s my first overseas trip so it’s natural that I’m going to be a little excited.

It’s just a pity the Aussie dollar has tumbled against the American one so I’m losing more cash than I thought I would. But I keep telling myself it’s nowhere near as bad as it was a few years ago when I would’ve lost half my savings in the currency conversion. As it was, I only lost $300. Could’ve been a lot worse. I’m hoping that the dollar will rally and I’ll get more bang for my buck when I do my second conversion.

And I still haven’t bought any sunscreen, a second sketchpad, power plug adaptor, tim tams or the majority of the things I had on my list.

Everything’s blue in this world

Much to my surprise, this is a minimally edited photo. I tweaked the exposure down one step to remove some of the white burn in the corners but it really did come out of the camera that blue. And many thanks to Trent Reznor for such a great title. It’s a lyric from a NIN song but I have no idea which one.

The way out is through

I’ve been flicking through some of my old photos and I found at least one that I thought deserved an outing. I probably ignored it when I took it because I didn’t know how to do what I wanted to do to it. I’ve got Lightroom now and I’ve discovered a whole new world of post-processing.

The state of Kelly’s heart

I bought a scarecrow action figure that’s based on a Tim Sale design today and I’m looking forward to photographing it. It’s so creepy looking. I can’t wait to hit it with some good harsh lighting and see what comes out.
